My name is Abrahim Ahmad (he/him) and I'm a first-year mature student in the school of Social Work. I am running for the position of ED of Marketing & Commuincations on the slate called “Choose Hope.” I have extensive experience working with the FCSS, having been a part of the Events Committee, the Culture & Wellness Committee, the Frosh Committee, as well as the ED of the Marketing & Communications Committee which I am looking to be re-elected in.
If elected, I aim to lead the Marketing & Communications Committee in increasing FCSS awareness and unity through a greater social media presence. I will achieve this through more social media posts and reels, and increasing our presence on TikTok. Furthermore, I plan to host more tabling events for FCSS in order to promote the student society as well as provide awareness for opportunities within FCSS to the student body.
I also will look to standardizing and creating policies and guidelines for the Marketing & Communications Committee so as to offer better support to all committees and clubs it aids. Furthermore, in creating a standard, I look to create a basis for this committee to build on for future teams

School Director Board Candidates
Grace Xu
Early Childhood Studies
Director
Hello fellow Early Childhood Studies students! My name is Grace, and I’m thrilled to share a bit about myself as I run for the Early Childhood Studies Director position for the coming 2024-2025
school year! I consider myself a beginner but also an avid volleyball player, which has taught me the value of teamwork and perseverance. Off the court, you’ll find me lost in the pages of cheesy romance and mystery novels, or binging my K-pop, Latin rhythms, and Reggaeton beats. My love for K-dramas is matched only by my passion for music, having played the flute in my high school’s orchestra throughout high school. I love helping people so in the summer of 2019, I helped out at a summer camp where my job was to get children active, take them on field trips, and teach them many things. Adding on to my active life, I was also a member of my school’s ultimate frisbee team in fall 2022. My school also had a “food club” where we explored the vastness of different foods and delicacies all around the world. Now you may wonder. Why should you vote for me? I believe in the power of community and the impact of a helping hand (as you can tell by my bio). My passion and dedication to helping people have equipped me with a unique perspective that I hope to bring to the board if I get elected. Together, we can create an inclusive, engaging, and supporting environment for all students. Let’s make a difference, one step at a time!
Tahnia Naveed
Nursing Director
My name is Tahnia Naveed, and I am currently completing my second year in the Collaborative Nursing program. As the current Nursing Director on the FCSS (Faculty of Community Services Society), I am seeking re-election to continue serving in this role and ensure that students have a positive university experience.
In addition to my position on the FCSS board, I hold various leadership roles at TMU. These roles involve bridging the gap between faculty and students, contributing to the creation of initiatives, and disseminating information about events that students would find enjoyable and beneficial.
My leadership experience includes:
-
Medlife Vice-President (2023-2024)
-
Premed Nursing Director (2023-2024)
-
Nursing Course Union (NCU) Year 1 Advocacy Representative (2022-2023)
-
TMU At-Large Senator (2024-2025)
Beyond my academic pursuits, I am an active member in the TMU Karate Club. Leveraging my built-up experience, I am committed to effectively representing the interests of undergraduate students and fostering collaboration between the FCSS and student body.
Maisum Ali Azim Jagani
Nursing Director
My name is Maisum Ali, a self motivated, and determined, third-year Nursing Student. I am running for the position of Nursing Director within the FCSS. Nursing stands as one of the largest programs under FCSS, yet our interests are not receiving the attention they deserve. My platform is centered on ensuring that the needs of nursing students remain at the forefront of event planning, program development, and fund allocation. My approach is based in the basic principals of trust and accountability, ensuring that promises made are kept and that your FCSS
funds are used responsibly. To achieve these goals, I plan to work closely with NCU-CNSA to advocate for reduced
expenses and fees and negotiate scrub discounts. Additionally, I will lobby the FCS to increase funding for nursing scholarships, aiming to provide more support for aspiring nurses. I will also continue to support current event initiatives aimed at promoting recreational activities and
student engagement on campus. These endeavors will be pursued both within the FCSS and in partnership with external stakeholders who have the means of making change (FCS, NCU-CNSA, Faculty of Nursing).
Together, we can empower TMU Nursing through trust, advocacy, and collaboration.
Elwad Ahmed
Nursing
Director
My name is Elwad Ahmed, I’m a 21-year-old 2nd year nursing student at TMU. Like most of you, nursing has sucked the soul out of me, but since childhood, I love the healthcare field and am interested in psychiatric nursing! I love learning and going beyond my comfort zone. I have experience in event planning and leadership, and I currently volunteer as a Peer Sexual Support Survivor Line Helper at TMU. And I cannot wait to vacation after this gruelling year!
I want to become the FCSS Nursing Director to provide more events to nursing students (e.g., scavenger hunts, alumni talks, paint and sip) that also respect our schedules (sometimes the events we want to go to happen when we’re at clinical/classes). I also want to be your liaison and bridge the gap b/w students, professors, and faculty about decisions made within the FCSS.
Whatever you're concerned about (academics, events), please come to me! I’ll try to make it happen.
Let’s work together and make school fun! Vote from April 3rd - 5th for Elwad Ahmed as FCSS Nursing Director.
Rachel Lo
Nutiriton
Director
Hi! I’m Rachel and I’m currently a first-year nutrition student running for the position of Nutrition Director on the FCSS.
In my one year (more like 8 months) of being in university I’ve joined many clubs and committees on campus to get a feel for university life. These include the FCSS events, marketing, frosh, and culture and wellness committee, the Nutrition Course Union and the Toronto Metropolitan Home Economics Association. Hosting events in these clubs increases the engagement, connections (or as uni students like to say, professional network) and overall student life experience of my peers—it’s the ultimate reward.
Nutrition is a tiny program so I want to ensure that our voices are heard! Overall, I would be honoured to represent the School of Nutrition on the FCSS.
Jessica Maria Varghese
Social Work
Director
Hello people! I am Jerry Leung, a first year planning student passionate about mobility, and I’m running for the Urban & Regional Planning Program Director at the FCSS.
As a first year international student from Hong Kong, my journey in TMU began in self doubts of whether I could fit in and whether I made the right choice, but these were quickly settled once I dived into a program I am most passionate about, living the lifestyle I wanted here in the planning school. I am beyond glad to be part of the urban planning community that embraces creativity and authenticity, fosters acceptance and understanding, and I would really hope to pass the spirit on by serving the planning community.
I am excited to show what the next generation of urban planners have to offer, through personal and professional developments as well as mental health support, to connect our community from planning school to the larger FCS community.
Challenges are like planning studios, where you question the essence of life, but also knowing with determination one could make great things happen.

At-Large Director Board
Kayla Longland
International Student
At-large Director
I'm Kayla Longland, currently a second-year public health student and I'm running for the position of the FCSS International Student At-Large Director. I'm an international student from South Africa, but I grew up in Qatar. My background fosters a deep understanding of international students' diverse experiences.
This past year, I've actively contributed to the FCSS events committee, where I not only supported numerous events but also took the initiative to organize a "Game Night Event." My involvement didn’t stop there; as the International At Large Director within the FCSS International Students Association, I helped create a plan for next year. This plan includes; having events during the first week of school for incoming and current international FCSS students, creating specialized resources to help incoming students, "Campus at home" event planning, movie nights, culture nights, and mentorship programs.
I aspire to be more than just a director; I want to be your mentor and friend, navigating and overcoming obstacles together. Let’s unite in creating a welcoming and supportive community for all FCS international students.
