Daniel Barkin and Jacob Circo Student-In-Action Award
Both Daniel Barkin and Jacob Circo were student leaders of the Faculty of Community Services Society steering committee, serving as elected interim Executive Directors. Jacob played a crucial role in chairing the Governance and Policy Committee, which helped draft the 22 ratified governance documents of the FCSS. Daniel, as the interim Executive Director, successfully strategized the formation of an interim Board of Directors to present FCSS governance, gain support letters from all course unions in FCS, all TMU faculty-level student societies, and all TMU student unions, and conducted class talks with all schools in FCS to win the referendum on the levy to support the Faculty of Community Services Society. Daniel was re-elected for two additional terms as Executive Director, overseeing the growth of the non-profit organization he strategically led to secure a levy. During the first year, Jacob continued in an alumni capacity as the Chairperson of the Faculty of Community Services Society(FCSS), which is why the Jacob Student-in-Action Award was first created to celebrate and recognize the fantastic work of an instrumental changemaker. The FCSS Board of Directors proposed renaming the award in Daniel's honor, as he equally contributed to the remarkable work in establishing the student society we have today, serving as the last interim Executive Director for two years before the levy and the first for two years as the Executive Director with a levy. The Faculty of Community Services Society Board of Directors recognizes the important work of these two individuals in creating the FCSS we have today.
